2019/9/22: about the 2019 Ig Nobel Prize ceremony
As a past laureate I took part in events around the 2019 Ig Nobel Prize ceremony. I reported on them to our supporters in the form of a report and a diary. The publicly available links are collected below.

2020/4/1: an interim report on the project
About six months have passed since the project began. I send out a monthly diary of my research stay in the United States, but I would also like to thank our other supporters and give them a brief account of where things stand. Some of the research is not yet published and cannot be described in detail, so please forgive a list of headings.
Activities related to the Ig Nobel Prize
- Took part in events around the Ig Nobel Prize ceremony (see the top of this page).
- アメリカの由緒ある学術会議AAASでマーク・エイブラハムズ氏とともにイグノーベル賞関係講演 https://aaas.confex.com/aaas/2020/meetingapp.cgi/Session/25438
Papers submitted (in which the acknowledgements are expected to appear)
- A paper at an IPSJ special interest group (presented)
- A paper in the IPSJ Journal (under review)
- Applied Mathematical Modelling, a journal (under review)
For papers in which a supporter's name appears in the acknowledgements, we will send that supporter the electronic version at a later date.
Other making
- Live Coding Street Fighter 2
- A proposal for playing a fighting game while programming the controls on the spot, using GameControllerizer, a device that turns anything around you into a game controller. One day I would like to hold a tournament with it.
- 簡易話速度計
- Keep talking for a while and it shows how many kana per second you are speaking. It works on a computer or a smartphone, and is weak against noise. When a threshold is crossed it can notify an external system through a webhook, so feel free to extend it: punish yourself with an electric shock, start the SpeechJammer, whatever you like. As I mentioned briefly in the research diary, this was a small project I used to learn deep learning while in Seattle.
- PublicDice
- An online die, using a blockchain, that can be shared even with people you do not fully trust and that cannot be tampered with. It works on a computer or a smartphone. This was a small project I used to learn blockchain technology while in Seattle.
- 塚田研Webサイト
- Koji Tsukada is making a number of interesting things on his side as well.
There are other projects still under wraps. Please look forward to them.
