16. PeepDetectorFake

Blame Aversion and a Practical Wizard of Oz, with Kazunori Terada and others

It is unpleasant to have people peep at your smartphone or laptop on a train. Yet telling them off directly would cause friction, so we hesitate to do it.

This research grew out of trying to find a way around that.

It consists of PeepDetectorFake, an app that repels peepers in an unexpected way, and a psychological experiment on how being admonished by a real person differs from being admonished by a machine.
